There is an old Vietnamese proverb: “Đi một ngày đàng học một sàng khôn” or “A day of traveling will reap a basketful of learning.” As both an educator and (forever-)student, this statement speaks true to how imperative global education is.
The field of the humanities focuses on the study of human culture—something that is constantly being redefined and reconstituted over time, space, and people. Through performance and the living arts, artists and audiences alike are able to transcend national borders and visualize themselves into new worlds and unique ways of thinking.
I empower students to delve into new territories that may be daunting at first. Like them, I too had to relearn the modes in which I move, think, breathe, act, perform. I also strive to learn from my students who always push me to be more accessible, inclusive, and innovative.
“She is very welcoming that it encouraged me to have discussions and communicate with her about anything.”
“She is always asking students about their opinions… never expected us to love all the works, but was totally understanding.”
What recent students have said:
“Very fun to have class with... Can tell she's passionate about her students learning and understanding the material..."
